Role Responsibilities
Be at the forefront of Alberta’s data revolution: lead the development and implementation of cutting-edge statistical methodologies that transform raw information into actionable insights
Reporting to the Director of Data and Statistical Services within the Alberta Office of Statistics and Information, the Senior Methodologist advances OSI’s mission to deliver high-quality, accessible data and analysis. You will spearhead methodological innovation, collaborate with cross-government partners, and ensure the rigor and reliability of statistical models that underpin provincial policy development and evaluation.
You will design and evaluate sophisticated statistical methods—ranging from survey sampling strategies to small-area estimation and model-based forecasting—to address complex social and economic challenges. As a technical leader, you’ll guide cross-discipline research initiatives, manage methodological aspects of multi-stakeholder projects, and mentor junior analysts.
Shape statistical frameworks that influence provincial decision-making and public trust in government data.
Qualifications
University graduation is required in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Econometrics or closely related field plus at least six years of professional experience in methodology and model development; and some formal coursework in survey or research or analytical methodology and model building.
Master’s degree is preferred.
In-depth knowledge in designing, planning and executing a variety of multi-stakeholder collaborative projects such as data development and management; survey, research, and analytical methodology; and modeling.
Expert knowledge of techniques and software for theoretical and applied econometric/statistical models.
Strong data management and analytical skills using advanced programming software such as SAS, R, Python, and STATA.
